Service overview
Double Glazing explained
What is double glazing?
Double glazing means windows and doors built with two panes of glass separated by a sealed gap, set into a frame designed to stop draughts. We supply and fit double glazed windows and doors in uPVC and aluminium, using Deceuninck window profiles for windows and Hallmark Panels for composite doors. Every job is surveyed and measured before anything is ordered, so the finished units fit the opening properly.
Who it's for
Homeowners replacing single glazing or tired older units, landlords bringing a property up to standard, people renovating or extending, and commercial customers who need windows and doors that stand up to daily use. We work across Bridgend, Swansea, Cardiff and the rest of South Wales.
When you need it
The common signs are condensation or fog trapped between the panes, draughts around the frame, rooms that never feel warm, handles and hinges that no longer close tightly, rotting or warped frames, and outside noise that carries straight through. Many customers also replace windows when they are selling, renovating, or simply want the house to look cared for again.
Why a professional matters
A window is only as good as its fitting. A well-made unit fitted badly will still leak air and water. As a CERTASS registered installer, Josh works under a competent person scheme for windows and doors, which means the installation is carried out to the relevant standards and properly recorded. You also get a 10 Year Quality Mark Protection Guarantee, and the job is covered by £2 million Public Liability Insurance.
What happens if it's ignored
The cost of
leaving it
Heat escapes through old glazing
Single glazing and failed double glazed units let warmth leak out, so the heating runs longer to keep rooms comfortable. The problem does not fix itself, and it gets worse as seals age.
Failed seals lead to damp
When the seal on a sealed unit fails, moisture gets between the panes. Cold frames and glass also encourage condensation on the inside, which can lead to mould on sills, reveals and curtains.
Frames deteriorate
Warped or rotting frames stop windows closing properly. Over time that means draughts, water getting in at the edges and, eventually, a repair bill that is bigger than it needed to be.
Security weakens
Worn locks and loose sashes make windows and doors easier to force. Older units often lack the locking you would expect on a modern installation.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Choosing on price alone without asking who is actually fitting the windows
- Not checking the installer is registered with a competent person scheme such as CERTASS
- Replacing glass only when the frame itself has failed
- Leaving misted units for years until the frame or sill is damaged
- Not asking what guarantee comes with the installation

uPVC windows and doors
uPVC is the most common choice for homes in South Wales. It does not need painting, resists rot, and is easy to keep clean. Our uPVC windows use Deceuninck window profiles. uPVC suits most house styles, from terraces and semis to newer builds.
Aluminium windows and doors
Aluminium frames are strong, which allows slimmer sightlines and larger areas of glass. They suit modern homes, extensions and commercial properties where a cleaner, more contemporary look is wanted.
Composite doors
For front and back doors we fit Hallmark Panels composite doors, which combine a solid core with a durable outer skin. They can be paired with side screens to bring more light into a hallway. See our composite doors page for more detail.
Bay windows and awkward openings
Bay windows, older openings that are out of square, and tricky terrace properties all need careful measuring. Each opening is surveyed individually before anything is ordered.
Residential and commercial
For homes, the focus is usually warmth, noise and appearance. For commercial premises, doors and windows also need to stand up to frequent use and keep the building secure outside opening hours. We carry out both residential and commercial work.
Replacing a single unit or the whole house
Not every job means new frames. If a frame is sound and only the glass has failed, a glass replacement may be the right answer. If frames are warped, rotten or insecure, full replacement usually makes more sense. The free survey is where that decision gets made, honestly.
